Mentor Livingston Inc (formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Livingston County) has been providing children with mentors since 1980. Our service is based on a One-to-One friendship between a volunteer and a child. Volunteers serve as friends, mentors, and role models, helping children (who are primarily from single-parent homes) gain greater self-confidence. “Mentors” encourage “Mentees” to realize their potential and see themselves as having happy and successful futures.

About Us

Mentor Livingston makes a real difference to the children we mentor in our Community-based and Site-based programs. Last year we were able to impact 235 children through mentoring; changing their lives for the better - forever. The Search Institute, a national research firm, conducted a study examining the effect of mentoring on youth and found that, compared to their peers, mentees who met with their mentors regularly were: 46% less likely to start using drugs, 27% less likely to start drinking, 52% less likely to skip a day of school, 37% less likely to skip a class, 1/3 less likely to hit someone, More trusting of their parents/ guardians, Less likely to lie, Felt more supported and less criticized by their peers and friends.
